What the customer needed
Faye was getting ready to open her brand new reformer Pilates studio in Oxted. The space was a blank canvas, and getting the lighting just right was a top priority. In a Pilates studio, clients spend a lot of time on their backs, so the last thing anyone wants is a harsh spotlight glaring down in their eyes. She needed a lighting solution that was practical for the space, but more importantly, created a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The lighting had to look professional and modern, matching the high-end feel of the studio, without being distracting or uncomfortable during a workout.
The solution
We had a chat with Faye about the look and feel she was going for. The key was flexibility – bright and functional when needed, but soft and atmospheric during classes. We decided on a two-part lighting plan. First, we installed a series of dimmable LED spotlights throughout the main studio area. This provides good, even coverage of practical light that can be turned right down to create a relaxed mood. LEDs are efficient to run and last for ages, which is a bonus for any business owner. For the 'wow' factor, we installed feature lighting behind the large mirrors. By running LED tape around the back of the mirrors, we created a beautiful, soft glow that frames them on the wall. This bounces gentle, indirect light into the room, enhancing the look and feel without creating any uncomfortable glare for clients on the reformers.
How it turned out
The studio now has a lighting system that's perfectly tailored to its use. Faye can easily switch between bright, functional light for cleaning and setup, and a low, atmospheric glow for classes.
